A leading debt management company is reporting a rise in the numbers of its customers who cite loss of sleep as a direct result of debt anxiety as a major catalyst for contacting the company for help.
Annual average household expenditure is estimated to be £35,978. The corresponding figure for a household where the main occupant is 65 – 74 is £23,711 and £15,139 where they are aged 75 and over
A third of workers are more likely to go into work ill because of the economic downturn, a survey reveals. The study of 1,600, found that 30 per cent of workers are now more inclined to go to work sick as a result of the current economic climate. Around half of those choosing to turn up for duty while sick said the most important factor in their decision was job security.
With the recent Macmillan study showing cancer sufferers and their families are 20 times more likely to ask for help about financial issues, than about death and dying, Chartis Direct reports increased interest in its unique cancer insurance products WellWoman and CancerCare, which give cash payouts on diagnosis of cancer.

Getting Help with Your Debts:


If you're worried that you're spending more than you have coming in and the amount you owe to your various creditors is piling up it's time to tackle the problem. There are several organisations that can help:14-04-2009

Citizens Advice Bureau: There are CABx all over the UK. They are charities which give free, confidential, impartial advice to anyone. You'll find details in your local phone book or online at www.citizensadvice.org.uk  Citizens Advice Scotland is at www.cas.org.uk and in Northern Ireland on www.citizensadvice.co.uk

National Debtline offers free, confidential, independent advice on 08088084000 and from www.nationaldebtline.co.uk  There is also Business Debtline for self-employed people or small business owners – call 0800 197 6026.

CCCS - the Consumer Credit Counselling Service is a charity giving free, confidential and impartial advice and support. You can find it on www.cccs.co.uk  or call 0800 138 1111.

Advice UK can help you find a local money advice centre – www.adviceuk.org.uk 020 7407 4070.

Money Advice Scotland lists all the free money advice services at www.moneyadvicescotland.org.uk

Age Concern gives advice on money. www.ace.org.uk or call 0800 009966. 

All these services are busy as more and more people are worrying about their debts so if you can't get through keep trying.

There are other advice services which can help. You will see lots of advertisements for help to sort out your debts. Check whether the service is free or if a portion of what you pay towards clearing your debts is taken off to cover the organisation's costs.
