WINNIPEG -- It was fitting that Brad Jacobs sealed his right to represent Canada at the Olympics with one more big-weight double Sunday afternoon, and he never even considered a less risky shot. "Youre throwing that double to win the game," he said after beating John Morris 7-4. He said his third, Ryan Fry, told him it was coming. "Fry said it to me, Youre going to have a double either way here and were playing it. So my mind was already wrapped around some big weight shot before I even threw it." Jacob joins Winnipegs Jennifer Jones, who defeated Sherry Middaugh 8-4 Saturday night to win the womens slot, the one prize that has eluded her in a championship-filled career. Jacobs went into the game as the favourite, after earning his final spot by sweeping the round robin seven straight with a hard-hitting, muscular, fist-pumping brand of curling that delighted the crowd. Its also clean and near perfect when it counts. "Thats our style," he said. With no hometown heroes left to root for Sunday at Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings (Jeff Stoughton and Mike McEwen were knocked out before the semifinals), the crowd switched its allegiance to the Jacobs rink. It doesnt hurt that Winnipeg-born Ryan Fry -- the son of Manitoba curling legend and Brier winner Barry Fry -- now plays third. E.J. Harnden is at second and brother Ryan Harnden at lead for the rink based out of Sault Ste Marie, Ont. Just like Jones, Fry said it was especially sweet winning in his home town. "It hasnt even sunk in yet," he said right after the win. "Its just an honour to be able to play in front of my home town and my friends and family and for us to be able to pull this out. We had a great week." Morris was also born in Winnipeg and is the son of curler and curling coach Earle Morris, although he grew up in Ontario and has spent most of his curling life there or Alberta. From 2006 to early this year he was Kevin Martins third and part of the 2010 gold medal winning team in Vancouver. He came from behind to beat Martin in the semifinal to earn the right to play Jacobs. Morris signed on to skip Jim Cotters B.C. rink this year with Cotter moving to third but throwing fourth, Tyrel Griffith at second and Rick Sawatzky at lead. Morris said they had their chances. "Especially after five, being tied up at five, if we could have blanked the sixth end I think it would have real tight coming home," he said. "Were going to take a nice long break here over Christmas, regroup and refresh and come out the last half of the season real strong again." He said they couldnt get Jacobs away from the hitting game that served him so well all week. "The Jacobs team are real good hitters and you want to try to make them draw and we werent able to do that." Morris said both teams showed any doubters out there that they have what it takes to win, but losing still hurts. "You cant say were not going to have a great rep at the Olympics, its just a tough one to swallow right now because its real fresh," he said. Like the semi, Sundays final didnt go his way at the start. But, also like the semi, Jacobs made enough mistakes that let him at least stay in the game, if not move ahead. Jacobs took an early 2-0 lead in the first end when Morris second Griffith flashed. Over the last four years, Curling Zone reports Jacobs has a record of 31-4 when he scores a deuce in the first end. Morris had to draw for a single in two facing a pair of Jacobs stones but Jacobs was in the same boat and had to draw for a single in three when he failed to get the roll off a hit on his first skip rock. They blanked four but Morris was able to grab a deuce in five with the hammer, after Jacobs misjudged a hit and removed his own counter from the button, to tie at 3-3. Jacobs was able to grab a deuce in six and go up 5-3 after Cotter, facing a possible three, went for a hit, short roll and freeze, but left Jacobs a makeable double. They blanked seven and Cotter was forced to draw for a single in eight and surrender the hammer. Jacobs didnt play safe in nine and facing two, made that final double that gave him two to go up 7-4. The 10th end was a formality. Karl Malone Jersey . -- Ryan Millers debut for the St. Derrick Favors Jersey . Simon (10-3) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in 6 1-3 innings to break a tie with the Dodgers Zack Greinke and Cardinals Adam Wainwright for the NL lead in victories. Simon went to spring training as a relief pitcher and moved into the starting rotation when Mat Latos was recovering from elbow and knee surgeries. http://www.officialjazzproauthentic.com/Authentic-Tony-Bradley-Jazz-Jersey/. That assertion is getting harder and harder to make, especially given the way 23-year-old Danilo Gallinari has been playing this season. Pete Maravich Jersey . "For the past several weeks, Logan has been dealing and playing with an upper body injury," said general manager Doug Wilson in a statement. "Despite his efforts to play through it, the injury has not responded as we had hoped and Logan has made the decision to undergo a surgical procedure to repair the problem. Rudy Gobert Jersey . Brandon Morrow allowed five runs on six hits over three innings. He struck out two, walked one and hit a batter. Edwin Encarnacion had a two-out, bases loaded two-RBI double in the third inning.TORONTO - For the first time in three days, the most turbulent 72 hours of his life, Jonas Valanciunas was able to find an escape, an outlet for his ranging emotions. "Its been a rough couple days," the Raptors centre admitted following Wednesdays game, speaking with the media for the first time since he was arrested for drunk driving earlier this week. He was unable to address the incident directly, as he has yet to meet with his lawyers. "I found the power, found the energy to come out [and] fight," he continued. "I felt really good [because of the] fan support, thank you to them. That felt great, because everybody supported me. I say sorry and [am] learning. Ill be better." Valanciunas wasnt sure how he would be received by the teams fans, feeling he had disappointed them, just as they did not know what to expect from him, returning to the court in the aftermath of Monday mornings events. "Honestly, he was going to play like trash or he was going to play amazing," said Kyle Lowry after Torontos 125-114 win over the 76ers. "He played amazing, like we expected." The 21-year-old sophomore would go on to score a career-best 26 points to go along with 12 rebounds, hitting 10 of his 14 shots in 37 minutes of action. Once the ball was thrown up, and for the two and a half hours that followed, the only thing that was on his mind was the task at hand. "Its a tough situation for him to handle, to be going through," Lowry added, "but this is our sanctuary: basketball. We get a chance to be away from everything. Basketball is like our space, our secret spot and thats where guys can release a lot of energy and intensity." Scoring the first four points of the game, Valanciunas came out with a fire, a purpose and an air of confidence. He has been playing some of the best basketball of his career and those off-court distractions could not derail him. Leading the team with 23 double-doubles after recording just eight a year ago, Valanciunas has played 30 or more minutes and scored in double figures in eight straight games, matching a season-high. The biggest difference has been his comfort level and self-assurance, according to his teammates. The game has slowed down for him, hes playing with patience and most importantly hes not getting down on himself. "[Hes] much more aggressive, much hungrier," said Lowry. "He wants the ball. Tonight he was literally yelling at me to give him the ball." "He came up big," DeMar DeRozan stated. "That just shows you hes not letting everything else affect him, everything thats going on or the situation that happened. Hes jjust going out and playing.dddddddddddd. He did what he did, its over with, he apologized to us and he understands whats at stake and that we need him." His big night couldnt have come at a better time. Valanciunas has some work to do. He knows this. On top of learning from his error in judgment, hell have to win back the fans he let down. Wednesdays performance was the first step in turning the page. Lowrys return Although Lowry eased into his return from a three-game absence, sidelined with a bruised left kneecap, he more than made his presence felt when his team needed him most. The Raptors starting point guard recorded four assists before attempting his first shot late in the opening quarter. By the second half he was up to his old tricks. Lowry scored 19 of his game-high 29 points in the final 24 minutes, including 10 in the fourth quarter. "I was happy to be back there with my teammates, to be honest," he said after the game. "When you miss games you feel like youre letting your team down but it was great to be back out there with the fellas." Prior to the game, Dwane Casey indicated there would be no restriction on Lowrys usage and sure enough he played the entire first quarter and logged 38 minutes on the night. "[The week off] definitely helped my body rest but a week doesnt do anything," Lowry said. "Its going to take two months for me to actually be normally healthy again." Amir Johnson got another precautionary night off, missing his third straight contest with a lingering right ankle injury, though he could have played if necessary and shouldnt be out much longer. Nearing division title With Torontos victory and the Nets loss in Orlando, the Raptors are now one win - or Brooklyn defeat - away from clinching their second division title in franchise history. They can wrap up the Atlantic crown while also matching a franchise-record 47th win of the season in front of their home crowd on Friday when they host the Knicks. The stat The Raptors are a perfect 10-0 in games without at least one of their five starters (Lowry, DeRozan, Johnson, Valanciunas or Terrence Ross) this season. The quote "Our guys see the computers, they see the standings and the records but we cant play that way," Casey said of the teams defensive slippage, after allowing the lowly 76ers to score 114 points on 52 per cent shooting. "I just told them that weve got to pick our defence up and not have the mental letdowns that were having defensively. Its nothing that we havent seen before or any new trick plays. Its just one-on-one defence, blow-bys, our feet in the sand. There is a slippage."
